April 11, 2026: Just starting to add things here. More as time permits.

2016: #ReclaimOSU

Student leaders of #ReclaimOSU, representing many organizations, including FemUNITY, Still We Rise, SHADES, Multi-Partisan Coalition, Committee for Justice in Palestine (CJP), OSU Coalition for Black Lives (OSU4BL), International Socialist Organization (ISO), United Students Against Sweatshops (USAS) and Real Food Challenge (RFC).

In the #ReclaimOSU movement of 2016, A coalition of students, including those involved in the first phase of #BlackLivesMatter, Palestine solidarity, and fossil fuels divestment, came together to demand transparency in OSU’s investments.

The height of the movement was a rally on April 6, followed by a mass overnight sit-in at the OSU President’s office in Bricker Hall [more photos coming soon], where administrators infamously threatened students with arrest once faculty and other observers had left.

OSU’s investments – at a public university! – remain shrouded in secrecy, but #ReclaimOSU made a mark and exposed the repression that the university will report to at the drop of a hat.

The movement reminds us of the power of student organizing, coalition work, and the impact of nonviolent direct action. We continue the struggle to Reclaim OSU today.

Here’s an article by student leaders who were part of the Columbus branch of the International Socialist Organization. Written by organizers directly involved in the struggle, it gives a very clear perspective, from the students’ position, of what went on, the context, and why it all mattered.
